An article entitled “Evolution of research on water leakage control strategies: where are we now?” (https://doi.org/10.1080/1573062X.2018.1547773) was recently published in the Urban Water Journal (https://www.tandfonline.com/action/journalInformation?journalCode=nurw20), which evidences the research work carried out by Ricardo Jesus Gomes (IPLeiria), Alfeu Sá Marques (UC) and Joaquim Sousa (ISEC), regarding the development of new strategies for water loss management in water supply systems by District Metered Areas design.

Water loss management represents one of the main challenges for water companies worldwide. In Portugal, the value of unbilled water amounts to 35% of the total produced volume, translating in an annual economic loss of over 235 million euros.

In this context, Polytechnic of Leiria appears as one of the main institutions worldwide in what regards the research on new strategies for the management of water loss.

Congratulations to the team!
