Polytechnic of Leiria integrates regional network of Digital Competencies promoted by portuguese Government

Portuguese government has officially presented the “Digital Competence Partnership +” in a session held on November 14, at the José Saramago Library of the Polytechnic of Leiria. The ceremony was conducted by the Prime Minister, António Costa, and was attended by Manuel Heitor, Minister of Science, Technology and Higher Education, and José Vieira da Silva, Minister of Labor, Solidarity and Social Security.

In the framework of the creation and promotion of the “Regional Networks of Specialization and Training” program, the President of the Directing Council of the Institute of Employment and Vocational Training (IEFP) and the President of the Coordinating Council of the Polytechnic Institutes (CCISP)  officially sign the agreement the Digital Competencies + “. This cooperation protocol will be promoting information technologies training, as well as, retraining strategies for unemployed people with higher education level. This project aims to reinforce digital competences associated with the initiative INCoDe.2030 and is set to be accomplished in different regions.

Manuel Heitor highlighted the need of skills development in a digital transformation context “as well as career and professional reorientation towards a deeper learning and specialization”.

Rui Pedrosa, president of the Polytechnic of Leiria, recalled the importance of this day for polytechnic higher education institutions. He claimed “this is the recognition of its importance and competence, but also a demonstration of the openness of our institutions that here, once again, are confirming their impact and relevance on the current and future careers training, where the design of retraining strategies are very important.”

The partnership aims to qualify 1,500 graduates enforced by the current digital paradigm challenges , with global funding of 3.5 million euros available by the end of 2019. The Polytechnics, together with renowned companies, will be responsible for defining training structure content in order to meet the needs of the regional employment market.


Reinforcing collaborative alliances with companies in the Region

Regarding “Regional Networks of Specialization and Training” program was signed a collaboration agreement with the Entrepreneurial Association of the Leiria Region (NERLEI) aiming to strengthen current partnership mainly in information, communication and electronic technologies (TICE ) fields.
This agreement will predominately focus on training and integration of IPLeiria students in the TICE areas. It will be given the opportunity for students to take internships and participate in training programs in a work context. Polytechnic of Leiria students will count also with NERLEI support for their R & D projects.
