Polytechnic of Leiria Opens Second Application Phase for International PhD
New PhD in Digitalization Engineering
Applications are now open for the first international PhD program awarded by the Polytechnic University of Leiria in Digitalization Engineering, in collaboration with the Polytechnic Institute of Cávado and Ave (IPCA) and the Technological University of the Shannon (TUS) in Ireland.
The second application phase for this new PhD, which is also the first approved under the European University RUN-EU framework, will remain open until December 3, 2024.
This international collaboration will allow students to benefit from the infrastructure, laboratories, and research groups of all three higher education institutions, fostering a diverse and high-quality research environment.
Offered by the School of Technology and Management (ESTG) at the Polytechnic University of Leiria, the new doctoral program aims to develop research projects in new digital technologies applied to process and service automation, such as cyber-physical systems, robotics, artificial intelligence, cloud computing, IoT, 5G technology (connectivity), as well as sustainable and intelligent energy systems. These technologies are key to driving the digital transition in industry and services, particularly in industrial sectors.
As part of the advanced training project between the three institutions involved, this PhD aims to contribute to the development and consolidation of competitiveness and innovation hubs in digital technologies. The program is aligned with the smart specialization areas of the regions where the institutions are located, and is connected with European programs, promoting internationalization.
The program seeks not only to train highly skilled human resources but also to expand research activities and enhance the transfer of knowledge and innovation within the regions covered by the European University RUN-EU.
