University of Leiria and Oeste Strengthens International Scientific Cooperation with Singaporean University

The University of Leiria and Oeste (ULO), formerly the Polytechnic University of Leiria, has strengthened its internationalisation strategy and research activities through the signing of a scientific cooperation agreement with the Singapore Centre for 3D Printing (SC3DP) at Nanyang Technological University (NTU). The agreement was formalised on 24 June in Singapore during the second edition of the Singapore–Portugal Research and Innovation Week, an initiative that brought together higher education institutions, technology centres, companies and government organisations from Portugal and Singapore to foster new partnerships in science, technology and innovation.

The collaboration will support the joint development of research projects, the mobility of researchers and students, and cooperation in strategic fields such as engineering, advanced materials, additive manufacturing and digital technologies. The agreement also aims to strengthen ULO’s participation in international scientific and technological networks across Southeast Asia, while promoting the creation of collaborative doctoral programmes.

Pedro Assunção, ULO’s Vice-President for Research and Internationalisation, described the collaboration as “an important milestone” for the institution, highlighting its potential to expand opportunities for scientific cooperation, knowledge transfer and the development of internationally impactful research projects.

This agreement further strengthens the relationship between the institution and Nanyang Technological University, which began in 2024 with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding in the fields of research, development and innovation. It also reinforces ULO’s international presence and its commitment to building strategic partnerships with leading universities worldwide.
