Cinema and Expanded Cinema with the Wayback Sound Machine: Practices for sounding time, space, and place

Maile Colbert

8 November, 2.pm, Auditorium EP1

What can we gather from sounding the past? This interdisciplinary art studies project, that became my doctoral thesis, researches various forms of sound from the past, and designing sound for the past, to consider what knowledge and applications can be gained from the concept. This project proposes that the relationship between our soundscape and creative sound design can give us key information about how we listen, what we listen for, and what that can tell us. In this seminar I will dive into questions, concepts, theories, technologies, and outcomes of this practice-based research, and unpack how it became a practice-based PhD thesis.
