Open class with Paulo Mendes (Lisbon, 1966), visual artist, exhibition curator, and cultural Project producer, focused on his multidisciplinary practice, characterized by the openness to others, the questioning of established powers, and the search for non-consensual forms. Drawing on his extensive knowledge of the national art scene, which spans different generations of creators, institutions, and cultural spaces, the lecture will focus on a particular approach to the notions of collection, collective, and community.

With extensive artistic and curatorial experience, Paulo Mendes has developed a consistent and diverse practice since the 1990s, with his artwork represented in various public and private collections. His curatorial work was recently showcased at Galeria Quadrum (2023), MAAT – Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology (2021), Galeria Municipal do Porto (2020), and Centro de Arte Oliva (2019).
