back to school is the title of open classes wit former students, organized by the Bachelors in Fine Arts. In May 6th we receive open two former ESAD.CR students, from the Bachelor’s and Master’s courses in Visual Arts. Nádia Duvall and Patrícia Faustino will talk about their education and the beginning of their professional life, each of the guests will make a presentation of their artistic work.

Patrícia Faustino was born in Caldas da Rainha in 1983. She grew up in the village with the rhythms of the land. He lived in Funchal in his youth, where he fell in love with art, literature, counterculture and the avant-garde. He completed his undergraduate and master’s degree at ESAD.CR where he began his photographic practice. For 10 years she was also co-director of the Electricidade Estética association. She is currently a freelance artist and photographer.

Nadia Duvall, b. 86, Spain, Portuguese nationality, is a multidisciplinary artist whose work reflects multiple autobiographical, social and political issues with deep philosophical reflections through multiple media such as sculpture, drawing, painting, video, performance, literature and cinema. Duvall holds a PhD in Fine Arts (2024) with the final classification of Summa Cum Laude (Distinction and Praise) from the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Lisbon. Duvall has won multiple awards such as the BANIF PINTURA Revelation Award in 2008; DG Artes Art, Science and Technology Award in partnership with Ciência Viva; Young Creators Award/grant from the National Center of Culture of Portugal in 2016, and the Young European Creation Award from the Amadeo de Souza-Cardoso Museum in partnership with the JCE Biennale in 2019; prestigious FCT scholarship for a PhD (2019-2023) and Merit at the Luxembourg Art Prize (2020-2023). . Her first medium-length film “Green Scream” is in competition at festivals and has already been awarded Best Experimental Film at the Barcelona Indie Festival WSXA, an Honorable Mention at the Athens International Art Film Festival AIMAFF and Semi-Finalist at the LA Independent Women Film Awards, Tokyo Women Film Festival, Dubai Independent Film Festival, Paris Lady Movie Makers Festival and the Hollywood International Golden Age Festival. Duvall has published several books and has had multiple national and international exhibitions.
