WORKSHOP
MAY 17TH, 10AM
CERAMIC WORKSHOP – ESAD.CR
The workshop focuses on the creation of sound bodies and the construction of a clay maraca. By modelling it in rolls or in a ball, it will be possible to create a unique maraca that tests different dimensions and resonant bodies. In this contact with matter, it will be possible to build a hollow body and small clay shapes which, when shaken, produce a sound. The outside of the maraca will also be worked on by creating textures and applying engobes. Afterwards, the pieces made will be fired and each participant will enjoy their new instrument.
Catarina da Silva (2001, Viana do Castelo) graduated in Sculpture at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto in 2024, in the same year worked at the Myrto Liko Ceramics studio in Athens, Greece. Currently, she is attending the first year of a Master’s programme in Visual Arts at the Escola Superior de Artes e Design in Caldas da Rainha. Her work is divided between photography, writing, and ceramics, her field of action. Through clay, the material that gives body to her practice, she explores the possible sounds to be evoked by a ceramic body, which rehearses different dynamics and rhythms, transforming itself into an extension of body sounds. Her practice integrates new dialogues, culminating in a playful connection between the material, clay, and the immaterial, sound.
