The Polytechnic University of Leiria, through its UNESCO Chair in Arts and Culture Management, Cities and Creativity, LiDA – Laboratory for Research in Art and Design and the Master’s Degree in Cultural Management at the School of Arts and Design, together with the UNESCO National Commission and GEPAC – Office for Cultural Strategy, Planning and Evaluation, are organising, in partnership with the Caldas da Rainha City Council, the Impulso Festival and the National Arts Plan, an international colloquium celebrating the 20th anniversary of the CONVENTION ON THE PROTECTION AND PROMOTION OF THE DIVERSITY OF CULTURAL EXPRESSIONS, which will take place at the Caldas da Rainha School of Art and Design.
The colloquium’s programme features numerous participants and formats, concerts and performances, presentations of projects, talks with artists and academics, dancing and djing, and is based on several of the convention’s themes, namely ‘Cultural expression and diversity as human rights’, ‘Education for diversity’, ‘Culture for social cohesion’, ‘Originality and plurality of identities’, “Free circulation of ideas, images and words”, “Culture as a tool for democracy, tolerance, social justice, peace and security”, ‘Freedom of thought, expression and information’, “Linguistic diversity”, “Culture as a tool for democracy, tolerance, social justice, peace and security”, “Endangered cultural expressions”, “Traditional wisdom and knowledge systems of indigenous peoples”, “Sustainable development of communities, peoples and nations”, “The status of women in society” and “Intellectual property rights”.
