Uncle Vanya

by Anton Tchékhov

THEATRE
JULY 2ND AND 3RD OF 2025, 9PM
ROOM 17 OF EP2 – ESAD.CR

“Forests continue to disappear, rivers dry up, wildlife is extinct, the climate is ruined, and the land grows poorer and uglier every day.” (Uncle Vanya)

Two plans, multiple experiences, a sleeping society. An awakening caused by the delay of the clock. A new beginning that never seems to begin. In this piece we are confronted with the difference between existing and being. Astrov, a provincial doctor, is concerned about the devastation of forests caused by 19th century industrialization and is dedicated to trees and caring for the forest. Uncle Vanya is completely disconnected from the environmental cause. However, there is a link between the two characters: inaction and apathy towards life. The characters’ excessive focus on themselves does not allow them to act in the face of what is external to them. The forest is seen sometimes for its aesthetic beauty, sometimes for its material utility and monetary value. And we ask ourselves, what to do with this place we call home?
