THE SCAR HAS MEANING: THE STORY OF AN ARTISTIC IDEA
LECTURE
OCTOBER 10TH OF 2025, 11AM
EP1 AUDITORIUM – ESAD.CR

This lecture will be presented in two parts. The first will offer a detailed introduction to the etching technique, exploring its technological and procedural aspects. The second part will take a more introspective approach, offering a personal reflection on the artist’s journey and development. Central to this presentation is the motif of the scar—both as a corporeal mark and as a metaphorical symbol. In Professor Weronika’s work, the scar functions not only as a trace of trauma, but also as a witness to lived experience, memory, and transformation. It is a signifier of both rupture and healing. Through a series of examples drawn from her own artistic practice, she will explore how the scar becomes a powerful visual and conceptual element—a medium of expression, a form of personal and political manifesto, and a storytelling tool that speaks to themes of identity, history, and intimacy. The lecture invites a broader reflection on how physical and emotional traces can shape artistic language and serve as a bridge between the personal and the universal.
