Talk about the curating of Cineclube.CR and Caldas Film Fest

Lara Tomás and Guilherme Rocha

OPEN CLASS
OCTOBER 28TH OF 2025, 10AM
ROOM 36 OF EP.1 – ESAD.CR

In this open class, we’ll have the opportunity to discuss with Lara Tomás and Guilherme Rocha the production and programming of two projects that have shaped the Caldas artistic and film scene. Cineclube.CR and Caldas Film Fest are events that seek to promote Portuguese cinema next to the local community, involving ESAD.CR, as well as numerous collectives from the city, in their programming. By revisiting their archives, we’ll retrospectively explore the curatorial choices that have brought films, by young filmmakers, both inside and outside the theater.

Lara Tomás holds a degree in Sound and Image from ESAD.CR and is currently completing her Master’s in Fine Arts, also at ESAD.CR. Currently, she works as a videographer, director, producer of cultural events, and as a professor of Image Practices at ESAD.CR.
She is passionate about archives of all kinds and how they have the power to preserve memories (personal and historical). Therefore, her work in cinema, photography, and painting has begun to focus more on issues related to memory and the construction and deconstruction of the lasting image.
She directed the films “E quem quiser dormir, adia” and “Manta de Tijolos”, which have been shown at several national festivals, art directed several films and music videos, is a videographer for the Impulso music festival, and is one of the coordinators and founders of the Cineclube das Caldas da Rainha and the Caldas Film Fest.
More recently, she has participated in several visual arts exhibitions featuring her painting and alternative photography work. These exhibitions have been held at venues such as SAFRA (Lisbon), Habitat (Leiria), Grupius (Caldas da Rainha), ESAD.CR (Caldas da Rainha), Galeria Barata (Caldas da Rainha), and others.

Guilherme Rocha holds a degree in Sound and Image from ESAD.CR, where he is also currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Sound and Image Arts. His work spans the fields of directing, screenwriting, photography, and production, among other artistic activities. As a director, he has signed several film projects, including 501, How to Make a Beautiful Film, and A Eternidade e as Coisas Simples. In addition to films, Guilherme regularly collaborates on musical projects, having directed music videos such asCímbalos, Voz na Cabeça, Tique Nervoso, and Maré de Boémia. He also worked as first assistant director on the film Ce Bruit du Passé in 2024 and as videographer and editor at the ÉCU Independent Film Festival in Paris. As a producer, he has published several books and publications combining documentary and everyday photography with excerpts from his own writing. As a screenwriter, he wrote the film E Quem Consegue Dormir Adia, which was presented at several film festivals. In addition to his cinematic and literary work, Guilherme is the founder and artistic director of the Cineclube das Caldas da Rainha and the Caldas Film Fest — events dedicated to the sharing and appreciation of cinema.
