Orlando Franco, a Visual Arts alumni ESAD.CR. Orlando Franco returns to ESAD.CR to collaborate with the Master’s in Visual Arts program. In the morning, Orlando Franco will discuss his artistic and professional practice as a mediator and curator, and his experience as a professor and researcher at COW, Lusófona University. In the afternoon, Orlando Franco will oversee and participate in the midterm evaluations of the students, who will install their work in the MOLDA.

Orlando Franco (1977) is a visual artist, independent curator, teacher and education mediator based in Lisbon. PhD in Media Art at Lusófona University of Lisbon. His artistic work, explores the ways of video, image, installation and drawing. His researches seek to expand and amplify ideas and concepts as: tension and suspension, weight and lightness, achievement and frustration. His searches often focus on the physical notion of body/ machine, which can be animals, mechanical, industrial or objects. His doctoral work explored the theme of curatorship understood as an artistic act. He is a professor at Cinema and Media Arts Department of Lusófona University of Lisbon. Franco is the director of the Master in Photography and Researcher at COW – Center for Other Worlds, Lusófona University of Lisbon. Degree in Fine Arts in the ESAD-Caldas da Rainha, Erasmus scholarship Faculty of Fine Arts of Salamanca. Has regular exhibitions since 1999. Recently exposed in Centro Cultural de Lagos (Notes on empathy and otherness), BAG – Banco das Artes Galeria, Leiria (AWARE), Trem Gallery in Faro (The Eyes are not here), Berardo Collection Museum (WAIT), CCB, Lisbon.
