Final Project Seminar

undergraduate Program in Sound and Image 3rd year

SEMINAR
NOVEMBER 04TH AND 05TH OF 2025
AUDITORIUM OF EP.1 – ESAD.CR

On November 4 and 5, the Final Project Course Presentation Workshop will take place, aimed at thirdyear students of the BA in Sound and Image. This event marks the beginning of the course and is designed to guide students in the early preparation and planning of their final projects, while also fostering contact with the experiences and creative paths of former students.

The event opens on November 4 at 10:00 a.m. with the presentation of the Final Project course and the ICA support protocol (Instituto do Cinema e do Audiovisual). At 11:30 a.m., there will be a screening of films produced by last year’s students (approximately 60 minutes), offering insight into diverse creative and technical approaches.

After lunch, at 2:30 p.m., a conversation with former students and filmmakers Ema Canelas, Carolina Santos, and Lua Malvar will take place. The session will include audience participation and open discussion, encouraging dialogue between current students and alumni.

On November 5, the three filmmakers will return to lead a hands-on workshop, providing guidance and feedback on the ongoing projects developed in the Sound and Image Project III course.

This event aims to stimulate critical thinking, creative planning, and exchange between students and emerging professionals, fostering a spirit of collaboration and inspiration at the start of the final year of the degree.

EMA CANELAS
I’m Ema, I’m 23 years old, from Pombal, and I hold a Licentiate degree in Sound and Image from ESAD.CR.
I have directed four short fiction films — 20 (2022), Circuitus (2023), A Flor que Chora (The Weeping Flower, 2023), and co-directed A Casa da Vitória (Victoria’s House, 2024), which was nominated for Best Fiction Short Film at the 11th Sophia Student Awards in 2025.
In addition to directing, I’ve always been fascinated by composing soundtracks for audiovisual works, having collaborated with several colleagues on their projects throughout my degree.

LUA MALVAR
Hi, I’m Lua. Throughout my life I’ve explored various artistic fields, but I eventually fell in love with one in particular — cinema — although the visual arts have never really left me.
Film currently has my full attention; in truth, it always did, first through observation, and now through the camera, allowing me to create everything I’ve been building in my head over the years.
I’ve always had a deep fascination with the human being, and as I’ve grown older, that interest has only intensified. My greatest frustration is not being able to understand it, and my greatest drive is trying to.
So I try in the best way I know how — through art.

CAROLINA DUARTE SANTOS, 22 years old.
Digital Artist and Animator, with a Licentiate degree in Sound and Image from ESAD.CR.
Throughout her studies, she created two animated short films — Chá de Hibisco (Hibiscus Tea, 2024) and Cobaias (Test Subjects, 2025) — both nominated for the National Young Director Competition (18+) at the Cinanima Festival (each in its respective year).
She also co-directed and co-created A Casa da Vitória (Victoria’s House), a fiction short film nominated for Best Fiction Short Film at the 11th Sophia Student Awards in 2025.
