Antonia Gaeta

OPEN CLASS
NOVEMBER 4TH OF 2025, 10AM
AUDITORIUM OF EP.2 – ESAD.CR

Built around different notions of chance, the open class with Antonia Gaeta — art curator, conservator and woodworker, born in Italy and living in Portugal since 2003 — stems from the relationship she has developed with contemporary and non-contemporary cultures. Grounded in her experience and in a holistic approach to a wide range of practices, artists, creators and performers, it unfolds across the interdisciplinary field of visual arts, theatre, performance, dance and other artistic expressions.

With a degree in Conservation of Cultural Heritage from the University of Bologna, and after a master’s degree in Curatorial Studies from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon, Antonia Gaeta (Lanciano, 1978) obtained a PhD in Contemporary Art from the College of Arts of the University of Coimbra. She has developed research projects and exhibitions with various art institutions in Portugal and abroad, and has also published numerous texts in catalogs, specialized magazines and exhibition programs. For the Directorate-General for the Arts (Ministry of Culture), she was the executive coordinator of Portugal’s official representations at the Venice (2009 and 2011) and São Paulo (2008 and 2010) art biennials. In 2015, she was deputy curator of the Angola Pavilion at the 56th Venice Biennale. In the same year, she began her collaboration with the Treger Saint Silvestre collection on deposit at the Oliva Art Center. In 2019, she opened Verão in Lisboa, a space for experimentation in the visual arts. Since 2022, after her studies at the Ricardo Espirito Santo Foundation, she has been working on carpentry projects at the Figueira studio alongside her work as a curator.
