Venus in Furies
Rosa Baptista e Sara Morgado Santos
WORKSHOP
NOVEMBER 13RD OF 2025, 2.30PM
ROOM 3 OF EP.2 – ESAD.CR
In our COCKTAIL OF THE MONTH proposal, we produce six leaflets over the course of a year, with a pamphlet-like approach. Each issue will feature four artists who can contribute graphic and/or written content. The themes are at the discretion of each artist, ranging from a critical analysis of contemporary life to artistic and political commentary, but extending the political sphere to the private (and the mundane), meaning that they are not necessarily ‘big’ themes… small ones also have a place. Liberdade is 50 years old and is going through a ‘midlife crisis’… idealism clashes with the daily lives of those who have children, houses and bills to pay, routines to face.
It is a pamphlet and wall newspaper to be posted on the street and then updated on an online page (where all are available for download and printing). We propose a presentation of this project and will give students an exercise in reflection and pamphlet creation.
Rosa Baptista (Lisbon, 1980) lives and works between Lisbon and Santa Maria (Azores). She has a degree in Fine Arts from ESAD.CR, Animation Cinema (CAM), among other qualifications. She is part of the Pizz Buin collective, together with Vanda Madureira, Sara Santos and Irene Loureiro. With Ana Bigotte, Isabel Lucena and Pedro Cerejo, she participates in the artistic-research project Brincar. She won the FLAD Drawing Award in 2024. With Pizz Buin, she created Bahahal (ZDB and CAPC), the book Calhamaço (Stolen Books), the podcast Metapelho (TBA) and the video installation Guardar os Olhos no Bolso (Atelier-Museu Júlio Pomar). Co-author of the award-winning series Ema & Gui, she works in drawing, comics, illustration, video, and performance.
Sara Morgado Santos (1979) is a visual artist. In 2011, in collaboration with artist Gonçalo Pena, she created the project deus ex-machina, a low-budget film school presented at Galeria Zé dos Bois in Lisbon. In 2016, he organised several video art seminars in Norway, where he lived.
