To say with nothing in the words
Cristina Mateus
OPEN CLASSES OF CONTEMPORARY ARTISTIC PRACTICES_2025_26
DECEMBER 3RD OF 2025, 5.30PM
ROOM 34 OF EP1 – ESAD.CR
A conversation shaped by the images and words that have become part of her work, and by the movements and stillnesses of time. Suspension and dormancy — doing nothing — are some of the starting points for this encounter with Cristina Mateus.
Cristina Mateus was born in Porto in 1968, the city where she lives and works. She graduated in Fine Arts – Painting at the Escola Superior de Belas Artes do Porto, and later completed a Master’s in Multimedia Art and a PhD in Art and Design, both at FBAUP, where she is also a lecturer.
Cristina Mateus works in search of the images that remain after much imagining and conjuring. She adds colour to them, and at times a little sound — carefully — for the sonic quality and chromatic intensity of the images are critical, and she strives to avoid, at all costs, the possibility of producing any unwanted disturbances.
