ARTISTIC INTERVENTIONS
DECEMBER 4TH OF 2025, 11AM – 6PM

Perpetuum Mobile is a program of artistic interventions conceived as a living, permeable and ever-moving field, where ideas, gestures and materials become a shared language. It brings together students from the course Contemporary Curatorial Practices of the BA in Cultural Programming and Production at ESAD.CR/IPLeiria and from the Visual Arts MA – Master Monstre of the École Supérieure d’Art Annecy Alpes (ESAAA), activating curatorship as a shared, ecological and politicized practice.

The encounter between schools and territories reveals multiple artistic sensibilities that inhabit a space of freedom built through listening, negotiation and collective creation. The artists of Master Monstre bring with them the physical and symbolic crossing of the mountains that separate France and Switzerland. Using displacement as method and impulse for openness, they transport this geography—shaped by altitude and border—to ESAD.CR, inhabiting distance, loosening anchors, and allowing the nomadism of ideas to open fissures and possibilities. Between mountains and oceans, the exhibition becomes landscape, presence and absence, displacement and proximity, memory and imagination.

The program emerges from online conceptualization and production meetings and culminates in a performative and ecological event held on 4 December at ESAD.CR. Curatorial decisions—concept, selection of works, title, space, communication—were made collectively, in an exercise of co-responsibility that understands curatorship as a relational gesture. At the intersection of installation, performance, image, sound and object, the artists occupy the school as a critical and unfamiliar territory, where each work maps new possibilities of exploration and circulation.

Guided by Lígia Afonso (ESAD.CR/IPLeiria) and Laurent Faulon (ESAAA) between September and December 2025, Perpetuum Mobile is part of the inter-university Erasmus+ mobility program and also includes the students’ residency at the Caldas da Rainha Arts Centre and the studio at Casa Bernardo, and the support of the Municipality of Caldas da Rainha and the UNESCO Chair in Arts and Culture Management, Cities and Creativity of the Polytechnic of Leiria.
