Greetings from the strangers within

Paz Aires

OPEN CLASS
DECEMBER 09TH OF 2025, 2PM
ROOM 25 OF EP.2 – ESAD.CR

This open class was inspired by a battle held by first-year students in the Master’s in Fine Arts programme. Similar to hip-hop, rap or DJing battles, all students presented and defended a guest for the end-of-semester seminar. The artist Paz Aires was voted in.
Paz imagines communities of queer, monstrous and hybrid beings, sustained by desire and interdependence. These creatures inhabit speculative worlds where excluded fetishes and pleasures manifest themselves freely, giving rise to narratives that affirm transformation, symbiotic love and the possibility of freer times.

Maria Paz Aires (1998, Porto)
Through sculpture, drawing, painting and installation, she explores the fluidity of the body and identity, observing and proposing symbiosis between humans, animals and plants to better understand life and planetary generosity. She investigates non-normative bodies as a response to systems of social and emotional oppression, particularly those derived from patriarchal structures and late capitalism. Paz imagines communities of queer, monstrous, and hybrid beings, sustained by desire and interdependence. These creatures inhabit speculative worlds where excluded fetishes and pleasures manifest freely, giving rise to narratives that affirm transformation, symbiotic love, and the possibility of freer times.
