Quarry Sonnets, 2022

A week of dialogue between art and ecology, in Serra de Aire e Candeeiros.
International artistic residence.

19 to 26 November 2022.

Quarry Sonnets is a pioneer artistic research project, anticipating some of the complexities inherent to climate change and contributing to the resilience of ecosystems and their populations.

It is a research project in art and ecology developed by LIDA and ESAD.CR, in partnership with the Conselho Diretivo dos Baldios de Valverde, Pé da Pedreira, Barreirinhas and Murteira, Instituto da Conservação da Natureza e Florestas/Parque Natural das Serras de Aire e Candeeiros (ICNF/PNSAC), Centro Ciência Viva de Alviela and with the support of the municipality of Alcanena.

Between November 19th and 27th, about 45 participants from six European art and design universities will develop proposals for the rehabilitation of old cobblestone quarries and their surroundings in Vale de Meios and Algar dos Potes, in the PNSAC, where there are important dinosaur footprints.

The several participants will implement artistic research methodologies to speculate and propose ideas to the community. The experimental and collaborative work intends to establish a dialogue with the whole ecosystem, creating a multifaceted conversation and generating ideas for future implementation. The fieldwork is supported by ICNF/PNSAC, and the participants will stay in an artistic residence at the Alviela Ciência Viva Center.

On the 26th of November there will be a presentation and discussion of the multiple proposals for the community at Pé da Pedreira, Alcanede.
