In the contemporary art system (and it is very significant that it justifies and makes pertinent the use of the word “system”), criticism occupies a minor place and has been replaced by other discourses and other figures (curators, commissioners, gallerists, directors of contemporary art centers, etc.) who have a legitimizing function and determine the rules and the way to talk about art.

António Guerreiro is a chronicler and literary critic for the Público newspaper, editor of the magazine Electra (EDP Foundation) and guest lecturer at the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Lisbon. Along with a range of collaborations in magazines, catalogs and collective books, he is the author of two books: O Acento Agudo do Presente (Cotovia, 2000) and O Demónio das Imagens. Aby Warburg (Língua Morta, 2018).
