Ana Biscaia, a renowned and award-winning Portuguese illustrator, comes for the first time to ESAD.CR to present her work and talk about the Xerefé publishing house, founded in 2014. Artistic director of the Jornal Palhinhas newspaper, she has an extensive curriculum of exhibitions and publications. She collaborated with Teatrão, designing sets and other pieces for the stage. This open class, held within the scope of the Drawing II course, is open to the academic community.

Ana Biscaia was born in 1978. Graphic designer and illustrator. She studied illustration (Master of Fine Arts) in Stockholm, at Konstfack University College of Arts, Crafts and Design. Her first illustrated book, Negrume (published by &etc., with text by Amadeu Baptista), dates from 2006.
She illustrated Poesia de Luís de Camões para Todos (selection and organization by José António Gomes), an anthology that earned, in 2009, a distinction from the jury of the National Illustration Prize. She received the National Illustration Prize in 2012 for the book A Cadeira que Queria Ser Sofá, by Clovis Levi.
Her work for O Carnaval dos Animais, by Rui Caeiro, was also selected by the jury of the TITAN Illustration in Design award. With João Pedro Mésseder, she edited, in 2014, the book Que Luz Você Estaria Lendo? and, in 2015, Poemas do Conta-Gotas and in 2017 Clube Mediterrâneo – doze fotogramas e uma devoração, a book that, in 2019, was awarded at the 12th edition of the «Image of the Book», International Illustration Competition and Book Design. Moscow International Book Fair, book design category/author’s book. In 2022, the book O retrato (aquilo que não se vê), received the BRAW Bologna Ragazzi Award – The most amazing bookshelf. He founded Xerefé, a small publisher of illustrated books.
