Design Decolonization

Nuno Coelho is a Communication Designer and Professor of Design and Multimedia at FCTUC and Integrated Researcher at CEIS20 (Center for interdisciplinary Studies of the 20th Century, University of Coimbra).

He has developed his own authorial projects in the intersection between Design and Art, raising questions, mostly on social and political issues. In another strand of his work, he has explored issues of identity and memory through the visual imagery of historical Portuguese trademarks.

A conversation will take place where we intend to discuss the role of designers as creators and manipulators of images, involved in the process of creating identities, and design as a cultural product that often projects an imaginary loaded with stigmatizing representations, stereotypes and prejudices.
