“In the kinship system of the Krah\u00f4 people, the elders give their names to the younger ones. This regime of transmission also includes potential allies who visit the village, usually non-Indians coming from distant places. Next to the Krah\u00f4 we are Patpro<\/em> and W\u00fdhw\u00fd<\/em>. These names were earned several years ago in a ritual where a web of affinities with the community began to be shaped. We are summoned to be close, to remember, and to be allies, in a relationship that always renews itself, in a circular fashion.<\/strong>
In the time of nefarious necropolitics, alliances with non-indigenous people are amplified and multiply their forms.<\/strong>
Cinema configures itself here as the instrument through which this relationship becomes visible, sometimes through our films, sometimes through the community’s audiovisual collective, sometimes through a constellation of images that echo outside the Indigenous Land, in the form of denunciation, appeal, or as a radical gesture of cultural seduction.”<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

JO\u00c3O SALAVIZA<\/strong>
Jo\u00e3o Salaviza (1984, Lisbon) studied Cinema at ESTC and at the Universidad del Cine in Buenos Aires. In 2018 he premiered CHUVA \u00c9 CANTORIA NA ALDEIA DOS MORTOS (co-directed with Ren\u00e9e Nader Messora) at the Cannes Film Festival, receiving the Special Jury Prize – Un Certain Regard. The film was released commercially in several countries, most notably France where it was seen by 45,000 spectators. 
MONTANHA, his first feature film, premiered at the Venice Film Festival (Critics’ Week) in 2015, following the short films RAFA (Golden Bear at Berlinale 2012) and ARENA (Palme d’Or at Cannes 2009). Jo\u00e3o Salaviza’s films have been the subject of several exhibitions and retrospective sessions in festivals and spaces such as the Centre Pompidou, La Biennale di Venezia de Arquitectura, Malba Buenos Aires, Haus der Kulturen der Welt, Barbican Centre, Tabakalera, Casa de America Madrid, among others. His latest short films were released at the Berlin Film Festival: ALTAS CIDADES DE OSSADAS in 2017, and RUSSA (co-directed with Ricardo Alves Jr.) in 2018.
CROWR\u00c3<\/em> is his latest feature film, co-directed with Ren\u00e9e Nader Messora during a fifteen-month period in the Krah\u00f4 Indigenous Land.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

REN\u00c9E NADER MESSORA <\/strong>
Born in S\u00e3o Paulo, in 1979. Graduated in Direction of Photography from the Universidad del Cine, in Buenos Aires. For 15 years, she worked as an assistant director in Brazil, Argentina and Portugal. In 2009, Ren\u00e9e Nader Messora met the Krah\u00f4 and, since then, she works with the community, contributing to the organization of a collective of young cinegraphists. The focus of the work of the Mentuwaj\u00ea Guardians of Culture group is to use audiovisual tools for the strengthening of cultural identity and the self-determination of the community.
