Drawing on the relation between artistic practice and academic research that underpins his life and work, Jos\u00e9 B\u00e9rtolo will present a selection of photographic series. The session will highlight his photographic diaries, works produced in Japan\u2014with particular emphasis on Moraesu St.<\/em>, published in book form in 2024 by Documenta\u2014and examples of his commercial photography. The diaristic photo-film 365<\/em> (2025) will also be screened.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jos\u00e9 B\u00e9rtolo<\/strong> is Assistant Professor and Researcher at the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences, NOVA University Lisbon. His essayistic work has focused mainly on questions of representation and materiality in photography and cinema, with special attention to Portuguese and Japanese cases. He is the author and editor of several essay volumes, including Espectros do Cinema: Jo\u00e3o Pedro Rodrigues e Manoel de Oliveira<\/em> (2020) and Ichi-go Ichi-e: Fot\u00f3grafos Portugueses no Jap\u00e3o<\/em> (2025, with Pedro Alfacinha). As a photographer, he is the author of the photobook Moraesu St.<\/em> (Documenta, 2024).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
