After studying film in France, he graduated in Anthropology and obtained an MA in Communication and Culture from ISCTE. He coordinated the Moving Image Center at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation between 1986 and 2005. In 2000, with the aim of creating a festival where all the arts meet, plus one more (the art of movement), he founded A MONSTRA | Lisbon Animation Festival, where he is still programmer and artistic director. He taught Animation and other moving image disciplines at ESAD.CR between 1999 and 2026. He is a visiting professor at several international universities.
