In this open class, designer Soraia Teixeira will present her practice, where she has proposed and questioned devices of a performative nature, for private and public spaces, which promote new habits and new relationships with the individual and social body. She will also tell us about the research Project she is currently developing at EINA – Centre Universitari de Disseny i Art de Barcelona and UAB – Universitàt Autónoma de Barcelona, in the doctoral program Investigación en Diseño y Arte.
Soraia Teixeira
Designer with independent practice in the city of Porto. With a master’s degree in Product Design from the Escola Superior de Artes e Design das Caldas da Rainha (2016) and a degree in Industrial Design from the Polytechnic of Porto (2012). His academic training now continues at EINA – Center Universitari de Disseny i Art de Barcelona and UAB – Universitàt Autónoma de Barcelona, in the doctoral program of Investigación en Diseño y Arte where he develops a thesis project that investigates the relationship of objects in the mediation of relationships proximity between people.
Between 2016 and 2017, she worked with the “Ciszak Dalmas” atelier in Madrid. As an independent designer, the projects “Tocar o Lugar Comum” for the publisher Vai e Vem (2023) stand out; “Public Devices for Therapy” for the 5th Istanbul Design Biennial (2020); “Devolution” for Assimagra – Portuguese Natural Resources Association (2020); “Baskets” and “Boards” for RARA – Design and Artisans Residency of the Walk&Talk Azores Festival (2019); and the “Xia” project for Burel Factory (2017).
In 2022 and 2023, she worked as head of the Materials studio of the Psychosocial Rehabilitation Service at Hospital Magalhães Lemos in Porto, where she mobilized projects such as “Nos e os Ofícios” and “Idas ao Cinema”; These projects aim to promote autonomy, training and relationships with the outside world for people with serious mental illness. Currently, while pursuing her PhD and establishing her independent Design practice, she is also a guest professor at the Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Product Design at the University of Minho.
