What’s art direction?

Pedro Ferreira

MASTERCLASS
MAY 8TH, 10.30AM
AUDITORIUM EP.1

What’s art direction?
This is the question I have asked throughout my career.
Art direction are that set of rules that I was told are essential to be good and that I consciously learned to question and often to disrespect, in a long life of experimental nomadism.
From happy cows to Swan Lake are stories about art direction, Art, Fashion and photography and the incessant search for looking at life is work in a less conventional way, making the boundaries that corporations and briefings like to impose disappear.

ROOM 21 EP.2

Tamara Alves, well known transdisciplinary artist is a former student of ESAD.CR BA in Fine Arts. May 8th, in the context of the schools open week, she will give an open class about her work. Tamara Alves has been weaving a narrative that celebrates in a raw, poetic way the primeval vitality of strong sensations, of an animal becoming, of brute passion, as opposed to rational deliberation. Based on the idea that our instincts are what defines us, the artist invokes a universe of (female) human and animal figures in interaction with the natural landscape and objects imbued with a strong symbolic charge that invite us to embrace feelings as a wild and untamed driving force. A universe

European Funding for Cultural Projects

Francisco Cipriano

OPEN CLASS
MAY 8TH, 3PM
AUDITORIUM EP.2

This open class aims to provide ESAD students with motivation, knowledge and the ability to detect funding opportunities for artistic and cultural projects. In this class, we propose a journey through European funding for Art, Culture and Creativity. Firstly, we’ll give a brief overview of the EU programmes that are available to Portugal and that can potentially fund projects in the field of arts and culture, distinguishing between what the subsidiarity programmes are, i.e. what Portugal 2020 was, what the new Portugal 2030 will be, what Operational Programmes there are, how the regional organisation works, how they articulate with the new Recovery and Resilience Plan and, in contrast, which programmes under a direct regime with the European Commission are relevant to the arts and culture, in particular the Creative Europe programme, whose management is direct between the beneficiary and the European Commission, highlighting the differences with Portugal 2030. The aim is to provide specific information on how to turn an idea into a project, the main elements to take into account when formalising an application, the logic of calls for proposals, where to submit applications, how to register in European databases and all the necessary formalities.

ABALADIÇA
ESAD.CR’s Year Exhibition

EXHIBITION OPENING
MAY 8TH, 5PM
ESAD.CR

From May 8th to 12th, visitors are invited to witness the final act of these students, passing through corridors, atriums, classrooms and ateliers, questioning the works and the processes, deconstructing patterns and posing new questions to the contemporary world. Each work, each object, opens up a narrative, a unique and singular expression that invites reflection. The exhibition marks the culmination of several years of learning, self-discovery and the challenges of the imminent entry into the professional art world, differently expressed in dreams, anguish, fear, emptiness, curiosity, nostalgia, enthusiasm and daring. From toasts among friends to solitary journeys, from promises of what’s to come to memories of what has been, we celebrate both this farewell and its step forward.
