Pedro Pousada (1970), is an artist represented by Pedro Oliveira Gallery. Pousada is an associate professor at the University of Coimbra, where he teaches Drawing and Art Theory, and in the PhD program in Contemporary Art at the College of Arts, which he coordinated between 2012 and 2025. He was also the director of the College of Arts between 2012 and 2025. Pousada is a researcher at CEIS20 in Group 4 – Artistic Practices: imagination, materialities, transitions. Pousada will be at ESAD.CR for the first time to talk about his training at the Lisbon School of Fine Arts, his practice, and his career as a visual artist.

Pedro Pousada (1970), a visual artist, has been developing his artistic practice in the field of painting and drawing since 1990, exploring devices that traverse these expressive media in the editorial and installation context. In 2017, his artist’s book “Why I’m Still a Communist” was published by Stolen Books. Since 1990, he has participated in several group exhibitions curated by artists such as Pedro Portugal (“Jáfetu”, 1994), Pedro Cabral Santo (“Faltam nove para 2000”, 1990; “Jamba”, 1997), Paulo Mendes (“Zapping Ecstasy”, 1996; “Plano XXI Glasgow, 2000), Luís Alegre with Nuno Figueiredo and João Sebastião Albuquerque (“Arte de furtar/furto na arte”, 2018; “Um livro é uma sequência de espaços”, 2021), António Olaio with Hugo Barata and Pedro Oliveira (“Na Cohorte de Di Chirico”, 2022; “Interior fora de si”, 2021); Also included are curatorial works by artist-curators such as Ana Rito and Hugo Barata (“Constellations – A choreography of minimal gestures”, Berardo Museum, 2019), and architects Carlos Antunes (“Proxy Wars”, 2015), Jorge Figueira and Bruno Gil (“Coimbrismos”, Anozero Biennial 2019). He is represented by the Pedro Oliveira Gallery. He is an associate professor at the University of Coimbra, where he teaches in the Department of Architecture at FCTUC in the area of ??Drawing and Artistic. Theory and in the PhD program in Contemporary Art at the College of Arts, an organic unit of the UC, of ??which he was the PhD coordinator from 2012 to 2025 and its director from 2012 to 2025. He holds a degree in Fine Arts-Painting from the Faculty of Fine Arts of Lisbon (1993) and a Master’s degree in Art Theories (2002) from the same faculty, having completed his PhD in Architecture, specializing in Plastic Expression, at the University of Coimbra (2010) with the thesis, “Architecture in its absence”. He is a researcher at CEIS20 in Group 4 – Artistic Practices: imagination, materialities, transitions. His scientific work has been mainly linked to the relationships between art and contemporary art and architectural culture. He is also a member of the Coimbra Circle of Visual Arts (CAPC), having been executive curator in 2015, together with Carlos Antunes and Luís Quintais, of the first Coimbra-Anozero Contemporary Art Biennial; he collaborates with this cultural institution in the area of ??essay writing on Contemporary Art, having recently published (2024) an anthology of texts dedicated to various curatorial projects that took place at CAPC between 2011 and 2018.
