Mariana Caló and Francisco Queimadela

OPEN CLASS
APRIL 29TH OF 2026, 10AM
AUDITORIUM OF EP.1 – ESAD.CR

Open class with Mariana Caló (b. 1984) and Francisco Queimadela (b. 1985), an artistic duo who have collaborated since 2010 and whose practice is particularly grounded in audiovisual media, in articulation with installation-based and site-specific contexts. From within a universe where the biological, the cultural, and the metaphysical intersect, the session will address the formal and conceptual dimensions of their work, highlighting its relationship to the vernacular, the landscape, customs, and forms of coexistence between the human and the non-human.

Mariana Caló (born 1984) and Francisco Queimadela (born 1985) graduated in Painting from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto and have collaborated as an artistic duo since 2010. Their practice is developed through a privileged use of the moving image, both through filmmaking and through its intersection with installation-based and site-specific environments, in conjunction with drawing, painting, photography, or sculpture. An interest in the dialogue between the biological, the vernacular, and the cultural is a recurring element in their artistic work.
