ARTIST RESIDENCIES OF THE MASTER IN ARTS OF SOUND AND IMAGE_ESAD. CR IN PARTNERSHIP WITH OSSO CULTURAL ASSOCIATION

The work proposal for this residency has as hypotheses, starting from ideas or projects suggested by the students or alternatively propose a collective or individual work that has as its object the landscape-subject and the idea of ‘commonplace’ and the territory surrounding the village of St. Gregory. The aim of the visual essays will be to stimulate and discuss, methods of thinking and doing, and simultaneously the hypotheses Implementation/montage of the project in the form of a photo-book or exhibition, projection with sound, etc … .
At the beginning and end of each day we meet to discuss photographs, see images of other artists – photographs, films, and/or texts, having as epicentre the relationships between photographs-images – words – text – sounds.

PAULO CATRICA (Lisbon, 1965)
Photography studies at Ar.Co., Lisbon (1985); Degree in History, Univ. Lusíada, Lisbon (1992); M.A. in Image and Communication, Goldsmith’s College, London (1997); PhD in Photography Studies, Univ. De Westminster, London (2011). Researcher at the Institute of Contemporary History, Univ. Nova de Lisboa (since 2014).
He has exhibited and published regularly since 1997. From recent exhibitions (selection): La ricerca di un titolo (1983-2013), Câmera Escura, Cooperativa de Comunicação e Cultutra (Torres Vedras,2022); Fussball ißt unser Leben, Kunsthaus Interlaken (Suiça,2022); Madonie Paesaggi 1973-2021 (Petralia Sottana, Sicília, 2022); O sítio em Vista, CEFT (Tomar, 2021); Almada, Um Território em Seis Ecologias, Museu da Cidade, (Almada, 2020); Prospectus, Carpintarias de São Lázaro, (Lisboa,2020); O desvio que fez a curva do rio, Galeria do Parque (V.N.Barquinha,2019); Grübler, Casa das Artes (Tavira, 2017); El Solitario Jorge, seiscientos veinte y dos días antes de su muerte Galeria Presença, (Porto,2016).

His work is part of public  and private collections in Spain, Italy, Finland, Brazil, Canada and Portugal: State Contemporary Art Collection, Portugal, Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, EDP Foundation, PLMJ, Novo Banco, Museum of London, Lisbon Photographic Archive and Centro Portugês de Fotografia.
