“On May 5th 2019, a grant to support events as part of the Healthy Lungs for Life campaign of the European Lung Foundation/European Respiratory Society was awarded by Dr. Joana Cruz – Invited Adjunct Professor at the School of Health Sciences (ESSLei) and Researcher at the Center for Innovative Care and Health Technology (ciTechCare), Polytechnic of Leiria. The grant will be used to organize and support events that increase knowledge of the impact of poor air quality on lung health and raise awareness of the actions that everyone can take to protect their own lungs from indoor and outdoor air pollution, such as quitting smoking and doing exercise. The events will be directed at three major groups in the community: children (5-10 years old), adolescents (11-17 years old), and adults (≥18 years), and will occur during the 2019/2020 academic year.
