Governing Bodies

General Council

As the highest collegial body of Politécnico de Leiria, the General Council is responsible for the approval of the President’s strategic and activities plans, the institution’s budget proposal and financial reports and other policies, procedures and regulations; the creation, revision or abolition of schools; the establishment of students’ tuition fees; the election of the President; and the discussion of any other initiatives presented by the President and necessary to the adequate running of the institution.


Academic Council

The members of the Academic Council work as consultants or scientific advisers regarding scientific and academic matters of Politécnico de Leiria.


Management Council

Under the current legislation in force for public institutions with administrative autonomy, the Management Council is responsible for the administrative, financial and property management of the institution, as well as for the management of its human resources.


Evaluation and Quality Council

The Evaluation and Quality Council is responsible for the regular self-assessment of the institution’s performance, as well as its scientific and academic activities. It assures that Politécnico de Leiria working in accordance with the law.


Student Ombudsman

The Student Ombudsman is an independent consulting body, elected by the students. It is responsible for assessing students’ complaints and act in accordance with their conclusion. To defend and promote the students’ rights and interests, the Student Ombudsman can make general recommendations or more specific proposals to the rightful governance bodies, especially in the field of academic activities and social services.
