CARME-IPLeiria researchers involved in study on response to Storm Kristin
The Polytechnic University of Leiria is conducting a study focused on analysing crisis response systems and the impact of Storm Kristin on the population, with the aim of helping to improve the performance of authorities in emergency situations.
The research project, entitled ‘Crisis Response Systems and the Impact of Storm Kristin’, involves researchers from the Centre of Applied Research in Management and Economics (CARME), based at the School of Technology and Management (ESTG). The study is being carried out by Ricardo Cavadas and Alzira Marques, the scientific coordinator.
The study aims to assess how the population was affected by the storm, gathering citizens’ perceptions and experiences regarding the response of the various entities involved. The analysis focuses not only on the direct impacts of the event, but also on how communication, support and the measures implemented were perceived by communities.
The aim is to identify aspects that can be improved in the response to similar situations, enabling authorities to adjust procedures and enhance the effectiveness of their intervention in future extreme events.
The participation of CARME-IPLeiria researchers in this work reinforces the link between the knowledge produced at the School of Technology and Management and the concrete needs of society, contributing to a better understanding of the challenges associated with crisis management and the protection of populations.
