ESTM Pride: MARE – IPLeiria Projects Recognised at the Expo Fish Portugal Innovation Award

On December 10, 2025, ESTM’s research was recognised at the Expo Fish Portugal Innovation Award, during a ceremony held at the Ílhavo Maritime Museum, further reinforcing ESTM Pride in the impact and innovation of its projects and in the contribution of researchers from its marine resources research group, MARE.

In the ‘New Seafood Products’ category, the FoodCycleIn project, by FoodCycle Innovations, received an Honourable Mention, under the coordination of researchers Filipa Pinto and Sónia Barroso. In the ‘More Sustainable Fisheries and Aquaculture’ category, the project PROVA – Innovative, high-quality and value-added products from the sustainable aquaculture of sea urchins, developed by MARE-IPLeiria, was awarded first place, with researcher Sílvia Lourenço leading a team that includes Ana Pombo, Inês Lisboa, Marta Neves and Susana Mendes.

These awards highlight the excellence of applied research, innovation, and the commitment of ESTM and MARE-IPLeiria to the sustainability of marine resources, while showcasing the talent and dedication of their teams and researchers — a true source of ESTM Pride.
