My name is Matic and I come from Slovenia. At ESTG I attended the course of Electrical and Computer Engineering from 2017 to 2018.
When I was considering what to pick for my Erasmus destination I was leaning more towards west, coastal warmer countries (Iberian Peninsula). I initially wanted to go to Coimbra but I wasn’t accepted so I chose Leiria instead.
I was the only Erasmus student in the class and I was surprised how warmly the local students as well as professors accepted me and offered to help me, even though not everyone knew how to speak English. Also conecting with other international students by attending International student meeting/parties was really nice.
What I was missing is organizes trips and events especially for international students. In my opinion that would make a great addition to the whole experience.
Portuguese people have no stress and era easy-going what surprised me the most and it wasn’t too hard to get used to. On the other hand, greeting by kissing on the cheeks was a little hard to get used t because we don’t have that in my culture.
Currently I am working at NXP Semiconductors in Austria as a software developer.
I gained a lot of skills as a software developer, I learned a little bit of the Portuguese language, I made a lot of good friends around the globe and learned how it is to live and study abroad.
I would like and expect if maybe Rede Alumni could organize a meeting with the former students.
