Polytechnic University of Leiria Establishes Academic Partnership with Henan Province, China

On September 23, the Polytechnic University of Leiria hosted a delegation from China’s Henan Province to enhance academic and scientific cooperation.


During the visit, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed with Henan University aiming to promote exchange programs in both education and research.

Founded in 1912, Henan University serves approximately 50,000 students across 40 faculties, offering programs in the sciences, engineering, humanities, and health. With a strong commitment to scientific research, the university is a key contributor to China’s academic and technological advancements.



Henan is China’s third most populous province, home to over 100 million people and numerous important cultural heritage sites. Its economy consistently grows at rates above the national average, supported by a robust agro-industrial sector and a long-standing presence in industries such as textiles and food processing. Recent initiatives have diversified the province’s industrial base into metallurgy, petroleum, cement, chemicals, machinery, and electronics. Henan is also a leader in automotive innovations, particularly in Zhengzhou, the provincial capital.
