Polytechnic University of Leiria Officially Launches ESECS Renovation Project

The Polytechnic University of Leiria has launched a €3 million renovation project to modernize the School of Education and Social Sciences (ESECS), aiming to create a more comfortable and inspiring environment for students, faculty, and staff. Officially signed on February 17, 2025, this investment reflects the institution’s commitment to providing high-quality learning conditions and a dynamic campus experience.

The project includes removing outdated materials and upgrading the building’s exterior, enhancing both safety and energy efficiency. With an estimated completion time of four months, the investment is supported by the Heritage Rehabilitation and Conservation Fund, along with the Polytechnic’s resources.

The new architectural solution respects the identity of the building, deeply connected to education, training, knowledge, research, and innovation. It is designed around the concept of a “web of knowledge,” symbolizing the interconnectedness of learning and discovery.

This vision is brought to life through an extended metal mesh structure that unifies the various sections of the building, creating a sense of movement and offering a fresh, modern identity. At night, the structure will be illuminated with blue LED strips, reinforcing the idea of a ‘living’ space that continues to thrive beyond the classroom.

With nearly 3,000 students, ESECS continues to expand its academic offerings across different fields. The school currently provides 40 programs, including Higher Professional Technical Courses, Bachelor’s degrees, Master’s degrees, and Postgraduate studies, strengthening its role as a center of excellence in education and innovation.
